The Street Sweeper is a fictional book dealing with the American civil rights movement and the Holocaust. The book beautifully ties together the idea that we all touch each other's lives. From the beginning I found it a page turner but very occasionally I had to slog through the pages as the mass of detail seemed rather contrived (especially the parts about which section of the US army was where that seems to have been included more for the fact that the author had done his research, rather than having any real impact on the story) and at other times I was unable to put the book down - unless the emotions overwhelmed me. I recommend this book to anyone who ever had questions of how the holocaust affected people personally, then and today. The insight and the perspective of the holocaust message he brings is so powerful and tragic that he has to be commended for finding a fresh approach for such a terrible tale.
